This package defines the macro \esindex which calls \index with a sort key created automatically so that entries are correctly ordered in Spanish with makeindex. What's new in 1.3: - Fixed an uncompatibility with recent versions of LaTeX. - Package option ignorespaces for letter-by-letter sorting. - \ignorewords to set a list of particles to be ignored. - Package option replaceindex, which makes \index to behave like \esindex.

esindex – Typset index entries in Spanish documents
This package helps you to create indexes in Spanish. With esindex you can write, say, \esindex{cañón} and the entry will be correctly alphabetized in the index. This release of esindex works with accented characters in any encoding, and without babel.
