Bibclean is a portable program (written in C) that will pretty-print, syntax check, and generally sort out a BibTeX database file. The standardised format of bibclean's output improves the chances of simple filters such as bibextract, bibindex, biblook, bibsort (and so on) operating correctly.
This package is not available from either major free distribution, MiKTeX or TeX Live.
