texin­dex – Sim­ple in­dex­ing us­ing stan­dard Unix com­mands

Start­ing from LaTeX \in­dex com­mands, and makeidx.sty from the LaTeX dis­tri­bu­tion, this set of sim­ple scripts (us­ing sed, sort, awk and uniq) gen­er­ates an in­dex file to be used in a \printin­dex com­mand.
This util­ity is not to be con­fused with the com­piled pro­gram of the same name, which is part of the tex­info dis­tri­bu­tion.
