first-packages – A short list of go-to LaTeX packages, aimed at a beginner

A list of suggested packages for most of what beginners want to do. The goal is to cite one package in each area that is capable and reliable, and that is in MacTeX, MiKTeX, and TeX Live.

This package has become part of latex-doc-ptr as of January 2021.
