tables – Tables without the need for a preamble

The orig­i­nal of this pack­age was writ­ten for Plain TeX, and seems to have been lost. This ver­sion works for LaTeX 2.09, but not (ap­par­ently) for cur­rent LaTeX; it seems odd to have con­verted it for LaTeX, since LaTeX's ta­bles model seems to cover most of what the pack­age does (al­beit rather dif­fer­ently).
