<h2>TeX Live 2010 - test ISO images and tarballs</h2>

<p>This directory contains <b>preliminary test images</b> and checksums
for the TeX Live 2010 release. (<a
href="http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/texlive/Images/">The current
official release</a> is available from CTAN.)

<p>As an alternative to these giant images, for normal testing we
recommend the small installer package(s) or other methods, as described
on the <a href="http://tug.org/texlive/pretest.html">TeX Live pretest
page</a>. That page also contains an overview of changes and links to
the documentation.

<p>The <a href="http://tug.org/texlive/">TeX Live web pages</a> describe
<a href="http://tug.org/texlive/quickinstall.html">mounting the .iso
files</a> and lots of other information.

<p>For 2010, there will be only one image: the <i>inst</i> image, which
contains everything and fits on one DVD. It is no longer practical to
create a live distribution that would fit on the same disc with the
other components of the <a href="http://tug.org/texcollection/">TeX
Collection</a>.

<p>Please don't download the <tt>.iso</tt> file; download the compressed
<a href="texlive2010.iso.xz">.iso.xz</a> instead; it is about
half the size (1+gb instead of 2+). If needed, get the <a
href="http://tukaani.org/xz">sources for xz utilities</a>
and/or the <a
href="http://tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/tlpkg/installer/xz/">xz
binaries</a>, including Windows, that we've compiled for TeX Live. You
can retrieve the image by rsync as well as ftp (http retrieval is not
available from tug):
<tt>rsync://tug.org/texlive-Images/test/texlive2010.iso.xz</tt>.

<p>The same data is also available as large compressed tar files,
primarily for the benefit of <a
href="http://tug.org/texlive/distro.html">distro maintainers</a>:
<tt>texmf</tt> (the texmf trees), <tt>source</tt> (the TL-specific
sources), <tt>bin</tt> (the binaries distributed with TL), and
<tt>extra</tt> (miscellanous other files). See the directory listing
for links.

<p>The images are updated more or less nightly, usually finishing by 6am
Denmark time. Don't bother consuming bandwidth retrieving new versions
every day, changes are rarely that significant.

<p>If you have problems running TeX after installation, please check
your environment variables: any settings that end up referencing other
TeX installations (TeX Live or otherwise) usually cause trouble.

<p>Bug reports are especially welcome, since these are test images. Any
problems not found in testing will be present in the real release, so
please test anything you can. In general, please email tex-live@tug.org
with any problems, questions, suggestions. The <a
href="http://lists.tug.org/tex-live">tex-live mail archives</a> may be
of some use.
