The TotCount package computes and displays the last value of counters inside a document. With this package one may count the total number of elements (e.g. sections, pages, citations, etc.) in a LaTeX document by simply using standard LaTeX counters.
This package is located at http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/totcount/ . More information is at http://tug.ctan.org/pkg/totcount (if the package is new it may take a day for that information to appear). We are supported by the TeX Users Group http://www.tug.org . Please join a users group; see http://www.tug.org/usergroups.html .

totcount – Find the last value of a counter

The package records the value that was last set, for any counter of interest; since most such counters are simply incremented when they are changed, the recorded value will usually be the maximum value.
