A new package has been installed on tug.ctan.org and by now should be at your favorite mirror. Thank you for the upload, Jim Hefferon ====================================================================== The following information was provided by the package's contributor. Name of contribution: forindex Author's name: Guido Milanese Location on CTAN: /indexing/forindex Summary description: Generation and maintenance of index entries License type: gpl Announcement text given by the package's contributor: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The package contains two programs: (1) doindex reads a list of index entries (simple or nested) and enters "\index" information in a LaTeX file. Existing indexing entries are left unchanged. (2) cleanindex removes all the indexing information from a file. The syntax in the output is designed to be processed by makeindex. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can have a look at the package at http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/indexing/forindex although you may get a better network connection by visiting a mirror of CTAN that is near to you; see http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/README.mirrors

forindex – Manipulate \index commands in a file

The forindex bundle consists of two programs: doindex and cleanindex.

Doindex reads a list of items to index, and processes a file to add \index commands in accordance with the items in the list.

Cleanindex removes the \index commands from a file.

Both programs are written in SNOBOL IV; .exe files compiled with Spitbol are available for Windows users.
