Support a new suffix .mps (or .MPS) for eps files created by MetaPost. The new suffix can be used in TeX Live 2016 or later.

xetex-def – Colour and graphics support for XeTeX
The file xetex.def provides device-specific definitions for colour and graphics support when running Xe(La)TeX.
It is now distributed as part of the graphics-def bundle.
