unpacked – Unpacked copy of the LaTeX sources
This package used to provide the source of LaTeX in its form immediately prior to compilation into a format. When LaTeX 2e first appeared, this was a significant support to users (since unpacking used on some machines to take a very long time).
However, the world has moved on since then, most users obtain their LaTeX sources and formats via the distributions, and whoever is still interested in these files can easily obtain them by unpacking latex-base.tds.zip.
