CTAN Update: pict2e

Date: July 1, 2008 3:15:34 PM CEST
On Mon, 30 Jun 2008, Josef Tkadlec submitted an update to the pict2e package. This package was described in the 2nd edition of ‘LaTeX: A Document Preparation System’, but the LaTeX project team declined to produce the package. For a long time, LaTeX has included a ‘pict2e package’ that merely produced an apologetic error message. The new package extends the existing LaTeX picture environment, using the familiar technique (cf. thegraphics and color packages) of driver files. The package documentation has a fair number of examples of use, showing where things are improved by comparison with the LaTeX picture environment. Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/pict2e License: lppl Announcement text: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Changed: extended slope arguments for \line and \vector; horizontal and vertical lines use PS/PDF operators, too. Added: macros for drawing arcs, lines given by endpoints, polygons; path constructions (as in PS/PDF); control of shapes of line ends.
This package is located at http://mirror.ctan.org/macros/latex/contrib/pict2e . More information is at http://tug.ctan.org/info/?id=pict2e (if the package is new it may take a day for that information to appear). We are supported by the TeX Users Group http://www.tug.org . pict2e – New implementation of picture commands

This package was described in the 2nd edition of ‘: A Document Preparation System’, but the project team declined to produce the package. For a long time, included a ‘pict2e package’ that merely produced an apologetic error message.

The new package extends the existing picture environment, using the familiar technique (cf. the graphics and color packages) of driver files (at present, drivers for dvips, pdf, Lua, , V, dvipdfm, and dvipdfmx are available). The package documentation has a fair number of examples of use, showing where things are improved by comparison with the picture environment.
