Date: March 4, 2015 6:55:44 PM CET
Jan-Åke Larsson submitted an update to the dvipng package. Version number: 1.15 License type: lgpl Summary description: A fast DVI to PNG/GIF converter. Announcement text:
This is a bugfix release that removes the unnecessarily long delay in --follow mode and a few segfaults on out-of-memory or missing standard-latex files, and adds some documentation improvements. It also removes support for libt1, which is reportedly not developed anymore, and not needed since Freetype does a much better job.
This package is located at http://mirror.ctan.org/dviware/dvipng/ More information is at http://www.ctan.org/pkg/dvipng We are supported by the TeX Users Group http://www.tug.org . Please join a users group; see http://www.tug.org/usergroups.html .
Thanks for the upload. For the CTAN Team Petra Rübe-Pugliese

dvipng – A fast DVI to PNG/GIF converter

This program makes PNG and/or GIF graphics from DVI files as obtained from and its relatives. Its benefits include:

  • Speed. It offers very fast rendering of DVI as bitmap files, which makes it suitable for generating large amounts of images on-the-fly, as needed in preview-latex, WeBWorK and others;
  • It does not read the postamble, so it can be started before finishes. There is a --follow switch that makes dvipng wait at end-of-file for further output, unless it finds the POST marker that indicates the end of the DVI;
  • Interactive query of options. dvipng can read options interactively through stdin, and all options are usable. It is even possible to change the input file through this interface.
  • Support for PK, VF, PostScript Type1, and TrueType fonts, colour specials, and inclusion of PostScript, PNG, JPEG or GIF images.
