Version 2.2 of TeXcount adds support for handling Unicode (UTF-8) encoded documents, thus able to handle non-Latin alphabets such as Greek and Hebrew, and special options for counting the characters of Chinese and Japanese texts. The script, including these new features, is available as a web-service at http://folk.uio.no/einarro/Comp/texwordcount.html where additional support (FAQ) is also provided.

count – Count words in a document

count is a Perl script that counts words in the text of files. It has rules for handling most of the common macros, and can provide colour-coded output showing which parts of the text have been counted.

The package script is available as a Web service via its home page.
