Ver­sion 2.2 of TeX­count adds sup­port for han­dling Uni­code (UTF-8) en­coded doc­u­ments, thus able to han­dle non-Latin al­pha­bets such as Greek and He­brew, and spe­cial op­tions for count­ing the char­ac­ters of Chi­nese and Ja­panese texts. The script, in­clud­ing these new fea­tures, is avail­able as a web-ser­vice at http://folk.uio.no/einarro/Comp/tex­word­count.html where ad­di­tional sup­port (FAQ) is also pro­vided.

count – Count words in a doc­u­ment

count is a Perl script that counts words in the text of files. It has rules for han­dling most of the com­mon macros, and can pro­vide colour-coded out­put show­ing which parts of the text have been counted.
